Neptune's Net
The sunrise creeps from the horizon as I float in the water
Its golden rays illuminate the island.
I bob up and down, caught in the ocean’s current
The sun disappears for a second behind the crest of each wave.
I float and float as I wait for it to break, to send me back to the shore,
But the tide keeps me stuck.
I weep and weep until I can’t anymore,
Salty streams running down my cheeks, mixing in with the salt water.
The ocean laps up my tears, like a mother comforting her hurt child,
The waves envelop and swallow me, a solitary figure in the infinite blue.
I won’t give you my tears, I’d rather give them to the sea,
For they are as useless as tears in the rain.
